  • Zoning: The Secret Weapon Against Federal Overreach

    Miles Taylor is a former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Chief of Staff who has become a prominent advocate for government transparency and local civic action. He is a co-founder of Defiance.org, an organization focused on protecting democratic institutions and countering what they describe as “presidential abuses of power” and federal overreach.

    One of Taylor’s recent core missions through Defiance.org involves tracking and opposing the creation of “secret” or unaccountable federal detention facilities. He argues that by staying quiet, local communities can inadvertently allow the federal government to establish infrastructure that bypasses traditional oversight.

    Local communities are the first line of defense. By participating in municipal government, residents can ensure their neighborhoods remain under local democratic control rather than being repurposed for federal detention without consent.

    St. Charles County Council is moving forward with a contract to partner with ICE through a 287(g) agreement under the Immigration and Nationality Act

  • Propositions on the April Ballot

    Understanding the Tax Propositions on the April Ballot

    This is a county-wide measure that would freeze property taxes for all homeowners, regardless of age.

    1. Proposition RT

    • How it works: Locks your property tax bill at its current level (the “Initial Credit Year”). If your home value goes up later, you get a tax credit to cover the difference.
    • The Goal: Prevents homeowners from being “priced out” of their homes due to rising assessments.
    • The Risk: 97% of property taxes go to schools*, libraries, and emergency services. Freezing the tax base makes it harder for these entities to keep up with inflation and growth.

    2. Proposition EMS & Proposition FIRE

    Because Prop RT (above) would freeze property tax revenue, fire and ambulance districts are asking for a Sales Tax to ensure they can still afford fuel, equipment, and staff.

    *Please note when considering taxes that impact our local school districts we all need to be aware that the State of MO is ranked 50th among all the states in state-sourced funding for schools. Thus local property taxes are the primary source for school funding.

  • Preparing for the April 7, 2026 Election!

    With one month until elections, now is the time to begin your research. A little effort in understanding the candidates is essential for electing leaders who align with our community’s values.

    Finding Your Ballot

    I was reviewing the St. Charles County Ballot for the April 2026 election. As it covers the entire county I found it challenging to find those items that pertained to me. I needed to check my specific districts, so I headed to the MO Secretary of State website. I found a great shortcut on that site. It allowed me to view those items that would be on my ballot. I want to share the steps I took.

    • Fill out the form and it will take you to your current Voter Registration Information
    • In the middle of the page, there is a link to View Candidates and Issue. It takes you to those items you will have on your ballot.

    Researching candidates:

    Starting with simple google searches and face book searches can get you a lot of information on candidates.

    • If you are viewing social media don’t just read what they post, read their comments. Look to see how they respond to those who disagree with them. Check to see if they respond professionally. Are they informative in what they say.
    • If you are looking for information on School Board candidates check out the School District website. As well as the website for St. Charles County Families for Public School(https://sccffps.org/)
    • On local elections your city newsletter should have information on the candidates.
    • Once you have found a way to contact the candidate, reach out via email, phone or social media. You can also attend an event they are scheduled for and get to know them.
    • Attend your local city board of alderman meeting, to see your incumbent candidate in action.
    • Attend a St. Charles County Council meeting, to see your incumbent in action.

    If you have moved recently or need to register to vote: Register to Vote. The deadline to register for the April election is March 11, 2026.

    If you will be out of town on April 7, 2026 be sure to visit the St. Charles County Election Authority before you leave. Absentee voting is available from 8:30 – 4:30 at the Election Authority.

    While there is parking at both sites, we expect a large crowd so carpooling is encouraged.

    This is for a peaceful, nonviolent First Amendment protest against the wanna-be King and his regime. They are dismantling our democratic republic with cruelty and disregard for the rule of law. A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action with no civil disobedience. All participants should de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Participants are expected to act lawfully at these events.

    Please remember that agitators are attempting to disrupt peaceful protest. While you’re enjoying the honks and waves, cheers and chants, and a multitude of creative signs, please be aware. There will also be HECKLERS, INSTIGATORS, SUSPICIOUS ACTORS, COUNTER PROTESTERS, and maybe some IRATE PROTESTERS RESPONDING TO THE ABOVE. As hard as it is to do, please do not engage! All have a First Amendment right to free speech. Some of us respond with a peace sign or chants, some just ignore the few birdies flying by.

    Indivisible We Will Persist – NoKings organizers are RECRUITING PEACEKEEPERS.

    The Role of the Peacekeepers is to perform the following:

    • Observe and de-escalate agitators, whether they are participants or not.
    • Observe, video record and afterwards upload incidents to the national NoKings organizers (link and training provided).
    • Observe and report an emergency to 911+ Lead Peacekeeper via phone, text and/or walkie talkie(provided).
    • Observe an incident, ask bystanders for space and encourage a chant or song to reduce surrounding tensions.
    • Peacekeepers will work in teams of two’s and need to stay together throughout the event.
    • Teams of Peacekeepers are asked to be trained in advance. Links for online training will be provided.
    • Peacekeepers will need to be available on March 28th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
    • Peacekeepers will wear identifying NoKings shirts. An Indivisible We Will Persist name tag on a lanyard will be provided.
    • Peacekeepers must be alert, should remain hands-free, except for communication tools.
    • Above all, Peacekeepers are to support fellow citizens to peacefully assemble and express their First Amendment right to free speech.
    • Peacekeepers will also help us disburse peacefully and united by thanking participants for coming starting at 1:45. Explaining to participants that leaving by 2:00 PM is for the safety of all. Remind participants that we protest weekly at Mid Rivers Mall Dr. noon to 1:30.
    • Ensure trash is picked up.

    1. Mobilizing for March 28th:

    “No Kings Day” We are getting ready for the third mass mobilization. This event is part of the No Kings movement. This is a significant event. We will be finalizing our local plans. We aim to join millions across the country. Together, we will declare that America has no room for monarchs or authoritarians. We need volunteers for marshaling, sign-making, and outreach. We are planning on hosting multiple site events and need your help!

    2. Discuss upcoming April 7th Municipal Elections

    Democracy starts at the local level. We’ll be discussing the critical municipal races and school board seats up for grabs on April 7th. These local victories are the “firewall” against extremism in our own backyard.

    3. Retaking our Voice:

    Stopping Bob Onder in US Congressional District 3 and Ann Wagner in US Congressional District 2 . It is time to bring new leadership to Missouri’s 2nd & 3rd District. We will discuss our strategy to unseat Bob Onder and Ann Wagner by backing candidates who actually represent us. We’re talking about long-term organizing to replace their agenda with one that serves the people. While the election is months away we need to work consistently throughout the year. Our goal is to ensure we remove these authoritarian sympathizers from congress.

    4. Sustaining the Street Heat

    Our weekly protests are the heartbeat of our visibility. We will review our current schedule. We will discuss new locations. We will ensure we have a steady presence to hold those in power accountable every single week.

  • Another Constitutional Assault

    Nationalize the Election Process

    The rapid pace of assaults on the US Constitution are exhausting.

    Balancing national needs with what we as individuals can do is extremely difficult.

    There are several organizations that are currently working Grassroots Non Partisan Efforts to protect the rights of Missourians.

    One such effort is through Respect MO Voters

    Respect Missouri Voters: Is a grassroots, cross-partisan movement. It is specifically designed to protect the “citizen initiative” process. The movement works to stop politicians from overturning the will of voters. It ensures clear ballot language. It also preserves the Citizens Initiative process in Missouri.

    They are very active in 2026 and always need people to help gather signatures or host small informational gatherings. They are looking for volunteers to support every aspect of their efforts. Check out their website and find ways to volunteer.

  • 1/31/26 Mid Rivers Protest Cancelled Due To Inclement Weather

    Unfortunately, we are going to cancel our protest this week due to the cold and wind forecast. Also, the sidewalks remain snow covered. Hopefully we will be able to hold our protest next Saturday, February 7th.

    It is disappointing as we have so much on our hearts and minds right now. To continue our conversations and grow our friendships, we have a reservation at:

    The Missouri Voter Protection Coalition (MOVPC) is a non-partisan statewide network. Its voter advocates work to secure the right to vote in Missouri.

    Legislation is happening and we should all be aware of how our vote is affected. Today, being an an informed citizen means, you need to find organizations that align with your beliefs.     What is a Persuadable? Usually, they are people that are:

    • Young and Uncommitted – coming-of-age voters
    • Repeatedly Disappointed – disillusioned with the same results or lack thereof
    • Undeclared – agree with points on both sides and often remain undecided until forced to make a choice

    How often do receive a postcard advertisement in the mail and simple throw in the trash as you walk in the house? I do it every day! However, if that postcard has a brief handwritten personal note on it I take a second look.

    Indivisible WWP would like to create a float for the St. Charles Mardi Gras Parade which is being held February 15th. YES, THAT’S ONLY 21 DAYS FROM THE POSTING DATE!

    We HAVE a design. We HAVE a trailer to build it on.

    This is where YOU come in. We need YOUR ideas, YOUR hands, YOUR involvement.

    WE NEED TO HAVE VOLUNTEERS NO LATER THAN JANUARY 31ST FOR THE FOLLOWING:

    1. We NEED people with the skill and tools to:
      • Cut plywood into shapes
      • Attach these shapes to a base
      • Assemble the pieces on the trailer
    2. We NEED painters
    3. We NEED a truck/vehicle with a hitch that can pull the trailer
    4. We NEED a place to work on the float
    5. We NEED a place to store the float

    Navigating Immigration Enforcement in St. Charles County

    With recent changes to Missouri state law and new partnerships between law enforcement and ICE, it’s important for our neighbors to stay informed. Here is what you need to know about how immigration enforcement currently works in St. Charles City, St. Peters, O’Fallon, Wentzville, and the surrounding county:

    1. The Highway Patrol is Now Partnered with ICE 🛣️

    As of 2025, the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) has entered a 287(g) Task Force agreement. This means troopers patrolling our highways (I-70, I-64, etc.) are trained and authorized to act as immigration officers during routine traffic stops.

    2. Local Police Status 🚔

    Local departments like St. Charles City, St. Peters, O’Fallon and Wentzville PD do not have formal 287(g) “deputization” agreements. However, they do share fingerprint data with federal databases during jail bookings through the “Secure Communities” program.

    3. Your Rights are Still Yours ⚖️

    Regardless of your status, you have constitutional rights:

    • The Right to Remain Silent: You do not have to answer questions about where you were born or your immigration status.
    • The Right to a Lawyer: If detained, do not sign any documents without speaking to an attorney.
    • Warrants Matter: You do not have to let anyone into your home or car without a judicial warrant signed by a judge. (An “ICE Warrant” or Form I-200 is generally not enough for entry without consent.)

    Minister, Teacher and Inspiration for All

    These are unsettling times. The future feels uncertain. This fear can tempt us to withdraw. It makes us keep our heads down and hope someone else will speak up.

    But history reminds us that democracy doesn’t disappear all at once. It erodes when ordinary people are convinced their voices no longer matter.

    Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. warned us of this moment with clarity. He used moral force to emphasize his message:
    “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

    Speaking out doesn’t always mean shouting. Sometimes it means asking hard questions. It involves telling the truth plainly. It requires showing up when it’s uncomfortable. It also means refusing to accept the normalization of injustice. Democracy is not self-sustaining—it depends on participation, vigilance, and moral courage from regular people.

    This is a time not to surrender to fear. Instead, choose responsibility. We must be responsible to each other, to the next generation, and to the idea that self-government is worth defending.

    We are still here. Our voices still count. And using them matters—now more than ever.

    We are gathering with other protest organizations from across St Louis to honor the life of Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered by an ICE agent. This candlelight vigil is an act of remembrance and a public declaration: from cities across the United States, we are watching, and we are demanding accountability.

    The vigil will take place Friday, January 9, 2026, at 6:00 PM, at the corner of Eager and S. Brentwood Road in Brentwood, where we will line the sidewalks in solidarity. We will provide as many candles as possible, but please bring them if you have them.

    Let’s actively engage with our community to ensure our voices are heard and that our government, at all levels, remains responsive to our needs.

    In an effort to better educate myself, I have found that the MO Elections & Voting site is a great starting point.

    • Check your voter registration. By verifying your registration, you can access information about all the districts you belong to. Once you complete the form and information appears click the link to view my districts.
    • Register to vote.
    • Find your polling place.
    • Find the names of the state and federal officials currently representing you (find your legislators).

    The April 7, 2026, election will center on municipal efforts, including local city, county, school board, and fire district initiatives.

    The August 4, 2026, election will concentrate on state and federal primaries, selecting the final candidates for the November elections.

    The General Election on November 3, 2026, will decide State and Federal representation.

    St. Charles County Election Authority has a comprehensive website. It will assist you as we approach elections.     Missouri currently has several significant petitions circulating that will shape the 2026 ballot and state politics.

    Active Petition Campaigns

    People Not Politicians – Referendum on Redistricting

    This petition seeks to overturn the new congressional map passed by the Missouri legislature in September 2025.  The campaign needs to collect approximately 117,000 signatures by December 11, 2025, to place the measure on the November 2026 ballot. If successful, voters would decide whether to accept or reject the gerrymandered map.

    Respect Missouri Voters – Constitutional Amendment to Protect Initiative Petition Process

    This petition aims to protect citizens’ ability to use the initiative process and prevent the legislature from overturning voter-approved measures.  The amendment would expand the initiative and referendum petition process by making it a fundamental right, allow courts to revise ballot summaries through lawsuits, prohibit the legislature from weakening initiative powers, and prevent the legislature from repealing laws enacted through voter initiatives without 80% approval from both chambers.  The campaign needs approximately 300,000 signatures by December 31 to qualify for the 2026 ballot.  This effort directly counters a GOP-backed constitutional amendment (HJR3) that would require citizen-led initiatives to pass not only statewide but also in all eight congressional districts—a requirement that would not apply to amendments proposed by the legislature itself. 

    MO for LGBTQ – Marriage Rights and Civil Rights Petitions

    This organization is collecting signatures for two separate petitions.  One would amend the state constitution to define marriage as “between two consenting adults,” protecting LGBTQ+ marriage rights if the federal Supreme Court ruling is overturned.  The second petition would expand Missouri’s anti-discrimination laws to include sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, and marital status.

    Missouri Right to Education Initiative

    This petition seeks to make education a fundamental right for Missouri children and require the state to maintain “adequate, thorough, and uniform high quality free public schools” in every district. The measure aims to address inequality between school districts across the state.

  • No Kings 2 – Thank You Mid River Participants

    Record Breaking Participation!!!

    We had pouring rain. We had sprinkles. We had thunder and lightning. We had ink running down our dripping signs. But none of that dampened our spirit and determination. Because we all had a message, and nothing was going to stop us from sending that message to Jeff City and D.C. As soon as you got off Highway 70, you looked up Mid Rivers Mall Drive and saw nothing but a sea of signs on both sides of the road. It was a sight to behold.

    Despite the rainy weather we showed up in record numbers. We distributed stickers to count how many people attended. We prepared 2000 and distributed all of them and people just kept on coming. We estimated 2500 people showed up. All sharing a concern for where our country is headed. Your party affiliation didn’t matter. Your race, religion didn’t matter. Nothing mattered except the common cause.

    We were having a good time. There was chanting. There was singing. There was music playing. There was a constant honking. There was cheering from the cars and participants. All 2500 people just exercising their RIGHT to peacefully demonstrate.

    I left feeling uplifted and hopeful. Soggy, but uplifted and hopeful.

    However, we want all our participants to be safe, so please use your best judgement for your situation. For those that are going to brave the weather with me, we are going to get wet so dress accordingly. It isn’t the first time I’ve been wet for the cause, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Please keep an eye on a weather app for any warnings that may pop up.

    If you find yourself needing assistance, look for the people in the Dark Purple shirts with an armbands. They are there to help you and will be carrying walkie talkies to contact the appropriate person.

    Be aware of what’s going on around you. Film any altercations with your phone and notify a Purple Shirt person.

    Citizen Initiative Effort to Stop Overturning Votes

    Respect MO Voter’s Organization officially launched their efforts to gather 300K signatures across the state of MO to get a ballot initiative in front of MO Voters in Nov 2026 to prevent the legislature from overturning MO election results.

    Informational Update

    To fight the new Gerrymandered Map 3 lawsuits have been filed.

    1. NaaCP has filed a lawsuit contesting that Gov. Kehoe decision to call a special session was unconstitutional and thus outputs of special session illegal.
    2. The ACLU is representing plaintiffs in a lawsuit brought forward to fight the power grab. This lawsuit points out the unconstitutionality of the effort as it is being done outside the bounds of a preceding federal census as stated in MO Constitution.
    3. As required by MO Constitution only compact districts are allowed. The 3rd lawsuit points out that the new redistricting violates this as the KC district has been redrawn to extend all the way to the border of Iowa.

    Citizen Initiative to Ban Missouri Politicians from Attacking the Will of the People

    Respect MO Voters is a bi-partisan organization of volunteers working to keep MO politicians from overturning the will of the people. This organization is getting ready to launch a state wide signature campaign to get a measure on the ballot for November 2026 that will make it more difficult for politicians to overturn the will of the voters.

    Protect MO Voters is working this week to keep the politicians from gerrymandering our Federal elections. This is an urgent effort, as the Governor has called a special session of MO Congress to perform re-districting.   • Contact State Officials to Oppose MO Gerrymandering of Federal Offices

    Please, take action and call MO Governor Mike Kehoe; MO House Speaker Jonathan Patterson and MO Senate President Cindy O’Laughlin to let them know you do not want them to support special legislation to redistrict the state of MO at this time. Please, encourage them to hold to the law and only redistrict after the 10 year census. Remind them they have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the State of Missouri.
