As we prepare for this Saturday’s No King’s Vote Early Demonstration Let’s Ensure that We All Keep One Another Safe!
As we gather as a group it is important to remember that each member is responsible for the safety of the whole group. Seventy percent of Americans firmly support peaceful protest, while 30% consist of disruptors who seem to believe that only their opinions hold weight. That’s simply not how our democracy functions. However, the line can become blurred between chanting and responding with obscenities or crude gestures directed at protesters by those passing in vehicles. Engaging with foul language or shouting back only escalates tensions and endangers everyone nearby, including those in the vehicle. PLEASE DO NOT ENGAGE! Instead, express your resolve by chanting, singing, dancing, or even playfully waving rubber chickens at them. For the sake of everyone involved, remember that, in the long run, being peaceful is far more powerful than resorting to verbal or physical violence. PEACEFUL PROTEST is our First Amendment right. Let’s uphold it!
There will be Peacekeepers/Marshalls present to ensure a peaceful atmosphere. These dedicated volunteers will be wearing bright yellow shirts. Should anyone around you resort to foul language or shout at passersby, confidently remind them that we all share a commitment to safety, and that the most effective antidote to such negativity is a simple smile and wave. Reach out to a nearby Peacekeeper/Marshall to inform them of the situation. If the negative behavior persists, document the incident and have someone call the police to guarantee everyone’s safety.
